- Advancing Veterinary Care in Lake Tahoe: Our New CT Scanner is Here
We are proud to share a major milestone for Pet Network Humane Society and the Pet Network Community Hospital: our new CT scanner is officially installed and in use . This achievement was made possible thanks to the incredible generosity of our supporters and the success of our recent Fur Ball Gala, where our community came together to raise the funds needed to bring this lifesaving diagnostic tool to Lake Tahoe. A Win for Local Pets Until now, pets in our region often had to travel hours away for advanced diagnostic imaging. With the installation of our CT scanner, that has changed. This technology allows our veterinary team to: Diagnose complex injuries and illnesses with greater speed and precision Develop more accurate treatment plans, improving outcomes for patients Provide immediate, in-house imaging for urgent cases, reducing critical delays in care For shelter animals, this means earlier detection of serious medical issues and a better chance at recovery and adoption. For community pets, it means access to cutting-edge diagnostic tools right here in Incline Village, without the added stress of long-distance travel. From Vision to Reality Bringing a CT scanner to Pet Network has been a dream for years. It is a resource that benefits both our Humane Society and the broader community, allowing us to elevate the level of care we can provide. Dr. Tremblay, Director of Veterinary Services at Pet Network, shared: “This technology has truly transformed our diagnostic capabilities. We can now quickly identify issues that may not appear on standard X-rays, giving us the ability to intervene sooner and more effectively.” Why It Matters For a shelter like Pet Network, advanced diagnostics mean more than improved medical care—they mean lives saved. From complex orthopedic cases to identifying internal conditions that would otherwise go undetected, the CT scanner helps us provide the highest level of care to the animals who need us most. This milestone also strengthens the role of the Pet Network Community Hospital as a resource for local pet owners. Thank You This project would not have been possible without our Fur Ball donors, sponsors, and everyone who has supported Pet Network. Your generosity has brought advanced veterinary technology to our community and is already making a difference for pets in need. We look forward to sharing more stories about how this CT scanner is transforming care for the animals of Lake Tahoe.
- A Life-Saving Leap Forward for Tahoe’s Animals – And You Can Make It Happen!
At this year’s Fur Ball: Tails & Tapas , we’re inviting our incredible community to be part of something extraordinary—something that will redefine animal care in Lake Tahoe for generations to come. We’re raising our paddles for progress. Our goal? To bring a CT scanner to Pet Network Community Hospital. This isn’t just about technology—it’s about time. Time that can mean the difference between life and death for an animal in crisis. Right now, when a shelter pet suffers trauma, neurological issues, or internal complications, we’re often forced to send them hours away for critical imaging. That delay can cost precious minutes we don’t have. With a CT scanner right here in Tahoe, we’ll be able to: Diagnose and treat critically injured or ill animals faster and more precisely Accept more emergency cases that other shelters must turn away Provide advanced diagnostics for both shelter pets and community pets through shared access In other words, we’ll be able to say “yes” more often—and save more lives. Your paddle raise gift at Tails & Tapas will directly support the acquisition and installation of this life-saving equipment. Every dollar brings us closer to a future where no animal is left behind because of where they live or what resources their shelter has. If you’ve ever wished you could do something truly game-changing for animals in need—this is it. Thank you for standing with us. Thank you for believing in a more compassionate, more capable Lake Tahoe.

A Toast to Our Supporters The night was filled with excitement, from an exclusive Scotch tasting experience to a gourmet dinner and live auction . Every paddle raised and bid placed helped us secure the resources needed to maintain a safe, climate-controlled environment for our shelter pets, staff, and visitors. What’s Next? - Trolli: From Bridge to Bright Future
Trolli’s story began beneath a bridge, where she was discovered alone, her fragile body telling a story of hardship and survival. Her sagging belly showed clear signs of a recently weaned litter, hinting at the struggles she had endured as a mother trying to care for her puppies. But her challenges didn’t end there—our team also noticed concerning mammary masses that required immediate attention. Despite her rough circumstances, Trolli’s gentle and trusting eyes reflected a glimmer of hope, as though she knew she was finally in safe hands. Thanks to the generous support of the Geno Hope Fund, our team was able to step in and provide the critical medical care Trolli needed. After a thorough evaluation, we determined that surgery was necessary to remove the mammary masses and assess their severity. The procedure went smoothly, and to everyone’s relief and joy, testing confirmed that the masses were benign. With the surgery behind her and a clean bill of health, Trolli was ready for the next chapter of her life. Throughout her recovery, Trolli’s sweet and loving nature captivated everyone she met. Despite all she had been through, she seemed to carry no bitterness or fear—only gratitude for the care and compassion she was receiving. Her resilience and capacity to trust were nothing short of inspiring. It wasn’t long before Trolli’s transformation caught the attention of a family searching for a new furry companion. Her new adopters fell in love with her gentle demeanor and warm personality, and soon she was welcomed into a loving home where she now thrives as a cherished family member. Trolli’s journey, from a stray under a bridge to a beloved companion, is a powerful reminder of what love, medical care, and second chances can achieve. Her story is a testament to the lifesaving impact of the Geno Hope Fund and the incredible resilience of animals like her, who, when given the opportunity, blossom into the most loving and loyal companions.
- Gulliver: A Resilient Spirit Finds Joy
When Gulliver was found wandering the streets as a stray, it was clear that life had not been kind to him. Limping and battling a severe case of kennel cough, he was a picture of resilience despite the immense challenges he faced. A closer examination revealed the source of his pain—a fractured femur that had been left untreated, causing it to heal improperly and leaving him in chronic discomfort. Despite all he had endured, Gulliver remained gentle and trusting, as though he knew he had finally found a place where he would be cared for. Our dedicated medical team, driven by compassion and a commitment to Gulliver’s well-being, determined that the best course of action was to amputate his damaged leg. While it was a difficult decision, we knew it would relieve him of the constant pain and give him the opportunity to live a healthier, happier life. Gulliver’s recovery was nothing short of inspiring. Just days after his surgery, his indomitable spirit began to shine. He adjusted quickly to his new reality, displaying a zest for life that captured the hearts of everyone at the shelter. One staff member, in particular, was deeply moved by his vibrant personality and boundless affection. Before long, they made the wonderful decision to bring Gulliver home, giving him the family he so deserved. Today, Gulliver is a picture of joy and resilience. He moves through life with the same energy and enthusiasm as any other dog, proving that losing a leg has done nothing to dampen his spirit. With his tail wagging and his heart full of love, Gulliver reminds us all that even in the face of adversity, there is always hope, healing, and the chance for a brighter future.

- Pet Network Achieves Coveted AAHA Accreditation
PET NETWORK LAKE TAHOE, INCLINE VILLAGE, NV –Pet Network Lake Tahoe is proud to announce that it has been accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA), earning recognition as one of the top veterinary hospitals in the country. Following a rigorous evaluation process, the hospital met AAHA’s stringent standards in practice protocols, medical equipment, facility management, and client service—securing a place among the top 15% of veterinary practices in the nation. Additionally, this makes Pet Network only one of eleven animal shelters in the country to obtain this accreditation out of nearly 4000 shelters nationwide. “We are beyond honored to achieve AAHA accreditation as an organization that provides veterinary care to all animals in our community,” said Dr. Marlène Tremblay , Hospital Medical Director of Pet Network Lake Tahoe. “This means we are providing the best possible care to all animals—whether they’re family pets or shelter animals looking for loving homes. To be one of only 11 shelters in the country–and the only shelter in Nevada– with this accreditation is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our entire team.” Unlike human hospitals, not all animal hospitals are required to be accredited. AAHA-accredited hospitals voluntarily meet standards that go above and beyond state regulations. These standards, continuously updated by veterinary leaders, ensure best practices in patient care, pain management, staff training, and advanced diagnostic services. “Our aim has been for Pet Network to become the ‘shining star on the hill’ in all forms of animal welfare,” said Simi Balter, Executive Director of Pet Network Lake Tahoe, “ and this accreditation is a validation that we are not only on the right course, but doing exemplary work on a National level. We are highly fortunate to have two incredibly skilled Veterinarians in Dr. Robl and Dr. Tremblay, who continuously elevate our work and mission for the benefit of the animals we serve.” Shelter medicine accreditation is particularly rare and recognizes organizations that not only care for animals in need but do so using cutting-edge veterinary practices to ensure each animal receives the most compassionate and high-quality care. Pet Network Lake Tahoe’s commitment to the wellbeing of every animal it touches is at the heart of this achievement. You can learn more about AAHA accreditation at aaha.org , and we invite you to visit our AAHA-accredited hospital and shelter to experience firsthand the exceptional care we provide to all animals. - Pet Network Humane Society Enhances Animal Care with Advanced Medical Equipment Thanks to Lahontan Community Foundation Fund Grant held at the Parasol Tahoe Community Foundation
Pet Network Humane Society is excited to announce the acquisition of a cutting-edge handheld vitals monitoring device, the PetMAPII, made possible through a generous grant from the Lahontan Community Foundation Fund (LCF) held at the Parasol Tahoe Community Foundation. The treatment, care, and proper management of our pets is important to the welfare of our community. Thanks to the generosity of LCF, Pet Network Humane Society and Community Hospital were able to purchase an advanced handheld vitals monitoring device, a PetMAPII. The PetMAP allows detailed monitoring and tracking of patients blood pressures, heart rate, oxygen saturation, EKG/ECG, temperature and more, all in a handheld, battery operated device. Within the first two months of purchasing this device, it has helped monitor vitals of over 50 Pet Network patients! It has benefitted the care of Pet Network's animals by allowing around-the-clock monitoring: in any location in the hospital, during transport, in kennels, during recovery and in their foster or home setting. The impact of the PetMAPII tool became clear within a short amount of time when it was used to monitor an animal during transport to an emergency hospital. A sweet dog named Tayter ended up at Pet Network Humane Society from rural Pershing County, Nevada. Tayter, faced an emergency health crisis and required emergency surgery. While Tayter was being transported to the hospital, she needed continued first aid treatment based on her quickly changing conditions. The PetMAPII was able to be used in the vehicle by a veterinary technician to relay vitals to a Veterinarian to better tailor her treatment until she arrived at the Hospital. Luckily, Tayter received the care she needed and then made a full recovery. She is now healthy and has now found a loving home, partly due to the use of the advanced handheld vitals monitoring device, a PetMAPII. The introduction of the PetMAPII has had a transformative impact on the lives of animals at Pet Network Humane Society, like Tayter, a dog whose emergency care was supported by the device’s advanced monitoring capabilities. We are deeply grateful to LCF for their generous grant, which has empowered us to provide superior care to the animals that rely on us for their health and well-being.
